TRUSTEES, volunteers and service users of the local charity EnviroAbility were thrilled to celebrate the completion of their move into their new premises last week.

Built in 1893, The Old Mill, the former SHACS building located at the end of Brookend Street, Ross-on-Wye, is now home to this successful, thriving charity.

They opened their doors to the public for their first day of business in their new building on Friday, January l8th. The new premises will be the centre of all the EnviroAbility operations as well as housing their second-hand retail shop.

ENVIROABILITY has been given a long term lease by another Ross-based charity, to whom the building now belongs and Manager, Paula Evans told the Ross Gazette: “The Old Mill is EnviroAbility’s first ever permanent home. We have not been able to afford commercial rents since the charity was founded 20 years ago therefore we have relied on the generosity of local commercial property owners to help us out with premises.

“This has helped us out greatly, financially, and has enabled us to use the money we would have had to spend on renting a property on expanding our projects and services. It has, at times been challenging for all involved at EnviroAbility, having to up sticks and move at short notice, not knowing when and where we would end up long term. Having a permanent home is going to make such a difference to us as it will mean we can concentrate now on expanding our services further.”

The Old Mill has been empty for four years meaning a lot of cleaning, repairs and maintenance had to be carried out to get this historical building back to a usable state. Over 50 local people and a number of businesses have given time and donations to help with the renovations and grants have also come from several Herefordshire funding organisations. In the near future, EnviroAbility plan to invite all who have supported the project to go and see what their generosity has helped create.

If you would like to be a contributing team member and join in the fun call Paula at the office on 01989 763388 or alternatively call into their new premises. The friendly team at EnviroAbility look forward to welcoming you.

The shop is open 9am to 4.45pm Monday to Saturday and l0am to 4pm on Sunday.
